The pictures below are all for the V1 and V2 build.
The latest build, with the Tesla small rear drive unit, is being documented on the
V3 Build page!
This is the coupler for V2. Interference fit. Was great until it broke off the Siemens motor!!
Building a motor mount.
Grinding down welds on motor mount - my little brother
Motor and tranny almost ready to go in.
Raising the motor and tranny into place.
Not sure what I'm doing here!
More pretty motor pictures.
Not a lot of room for batteries.
The new coupler for V2 Build. Amazing difference. Interference fit.
(The motor is still in the car here, just took out the tranny and then slid it back in. The splined section you can see on the coupler was taken from a Boxster clutch plate.)
Just me having fun on Christmas Day. Nerf gun shoots anyone it sees. Facial recognition libraries, webcam, servos.
The much better batteries for V2, with BMS modules getting wired up.
Had to weld battery boxes. Barely fits!
Almost ready to put batteries in.
Tight squeeze.
Finishing up the new inverter.
Had to weld up a coolant reservoir.
Here's the new inverter. Still messy wiring (will fix later) but inverter is bolted to the trunk floor and works great. Coolant tank to the right. Pump pushes fluid right through the inverter and keeps it very cool. DC/DC to the left. That bottle to the left is the electric power steering pump. BTW the frunk is 100% empty so we still have storage. And with the batteries in the engine bay, I still have the original Boxster front/rear weight ratio. Drives great around corners!
I helped some with this open source board for controlling Tesla inverters/motors.
